New OVIC online learning module: Managing the privacy impacts of data breaches
The Office of the Victorian Information Commissioner (OVIC) is pleased to announce the launch of a new online learning module, Managing the privacy impacts of data breaches.
A data breach occurs when personal information held by a public sector organisation is subject to misuse or loss or to unauthorised access, modification or disclosure. While some data breaches may have no impact or only a minor impact on affected individuals, other data breaches can have serious consequences.
This short 45-minute module is designed to provide Victorian Public Sector (VPS) agencies with an understanding of the rationale that should guide the management of the privacy implications of data breaches.
One of OVIC’s key functions is to provide training to agencies about their obligations under the Privacy and Data Protection Act. Designed with VPS employees in mind, this module can be accessed via OVIC’s online learning portal where our suite of privacy and freedom of information online learning courses can also be found.
Alongside this module, OVIC has produced a guide, Managing the privacy impacts of data breach, which can be found here. These resources are available for anyone to use and complement our free face to face training sessions which VPS staff can register for on our training page.
