United Nations General Assembly proclaims 28 September International Day for Universal Access to Information

On 16 October 2019 the United Nations General Assembly adopted a resolution to proclaim 28 September the International Day for Universal Access to Information.

Dee-Maxwell Saah Kemayah, SR. of Liberia introduced the draft resolution, stating that access to information is essential for the democratic functioning of a society.

By adopting the draft resolution, the United Nations General Assembly will create the biggest global platform for Governments, civil society organizations, citizens and development partners to reflect on the importance of access to information.

OVIC is delighted this resolution was adopted by the general assembly, as it further highlights the universal importance of access to information.
