OVIC attends the 62nd Asia Pacific Privacy Authorities Forum

OVIC has virtually attended the 62nd Asia Pacific Privacy Authorities (APPA) forum, held in Tokyo and hosted by the Personal Information Protection Commission (PPC).

The forum was held over two days, from 26 to 27 November, and attended by privacy authorities from around the world. The forum was an opportunity for APPA members and observers to discuss privacy issues, experiences and challenges experienced globally.

Key themes for the forum included the development and enforcement of legislation, education and guidance opportunities, the risks and opportunities posed by AI and new technologies and how children’s privacy can be protected.

Members of the APPA agree that proactivity and collaboration are important for privacy strategies moving forward. OVIC acknowledges the opportunity that cross-jurisdictional cooperation holds for the changing privacy landscape in both Victoria and Australia.

A communique has been prepared by the APPA and is available to view on the APPA website.
