We can only assist with privacy complaints about breaches of the Information Privacy Principles by Victorian public sector organisations (or private or community sector organisations that are carrying out functions on their behalf of a Victorian public sector organisation).

Health Information or health records

Private company or an Australian government agency
If you have a privacy complaint about a private company or an Australian government agency, you can contact the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner (OAIC). You can call the OAIC on 1300 363 992 or visit their website for more information.
If you have a non-privacy complaint about a Victorian Government department, statutory authority, agency or local council, the Victorian Ombudsman’s office may be able to assist you. You can call the Ombudsman 9613 6222 or visit their website for more information.
If your complaint involves serious corrupt conduct in the public sector, you should contact the Independent Broad-based Anti-corruption Commission (IBAC). You can contact IBAC on 1300 735 135 or visit their website for more information.
Operations of a local council
If your complaint relates to the operations of a local council, or breaches of the Local Government Act 1989 (Vic), including in relation to corruption, misuse of position, conflict of interest, disclosure of confidential information or distribution of unauthorised electoral material, you should contact the Local Government Inspectorate (LGI).
