Information Access Series: The ideal state of Freedom of Information in Victoria (IAID 2025)
This International Access to Information Day (IAID), we invite you to attend our Information Access Webinar on the Ideal state of Freedom of Information in Victoria!
IAID recognises the community’s right to access government-held information. More than 120 nations around the world guarantee this right through access to information laws.
The Victorian Parliament’s Integrity and Oversight Committee recently held an Inquiry into Victoria’s access to information law, the Freedom of Information Act 1982 (Vic). The Committee found that the FOI Act’s policy model is no longer effective and is struggling to meet the needs of our modern democracy.
Join Emma Stephens, Principal Policy Officer at OVIC, to hear about the Committee’s recommendation to replace the FOI Act with a new Right to information Act in Victoria. Emma will discuss the ways the current FOI Act is failing, and the key features of a new and modern access to information framework, as recommended by the Committee.
