Privacy Awareness Week launch
Privacy Awareness Week (PAW) is celebrated at OVIC every year to raise awareness of privacy rights, issues and trends, and the importance of good privacy practices.
To kick off our PAW celebrations for 2026, acting Deputy Commissioner, Privacy & Data Protection Anthony Corso will be joined by Dr Jake Goldenfein from the Australian Research Council Centre of Excellence for Automated Decision-making and Society (ADM+S) at our launch event.
Dr Goldenfein will share insights from a recent ADM+S research study into the procurement and deployment of AI technologies in the Victorian public sector.

Lightning Talk: What to know before you rely on AI
In this 15 minute lightning talk, Amelia, Senior Privacy Advisor and Conciliator, will step through the known risks and challenges when using Generative AI tools, and set out some key tips for individuals to keep in mind when using them.

Lightning Talk: Understanding function creep – because you can doesn’t mean you should
In this short Privacy Awareness Week lightning talk, Anna and Jeremiah, Senior Privacy Advisors and Conciliators at OVIC, will be explaining function creep, how it interacts with the Information Privacy Principles (IPPs) and what steps can be taken to lower the risk of non compliance with the IPPs.

OVIC is hosting a panel discussion with privacy commissioners from around Australia exploring the theme Smart Tech, Smarter Choices: Protecting Your Privacy in the Age of AI.
