Privacy Awareness Week 2024 – Monday 6 May to Sunday 12 May

OVIC will celebrate Privacy Awareness Week from 6 – 12 May 2024.

PAW is an annual event celebrated by privacy regulators across Australia and the Asia Pacific that highlights the importance of protecting personal information.

This year OVIC will be hosting four events and producing new resources for organisations. See further event details below.

OVIC encourages organisations and the community to get involved in Privacy Awareness Week. Celebrate Privacy Awareness Week 2024 by hosting an event in your organisation, attending OVIC’s events, and downloading and sharing OVIC’s supporting materials.

Privacy and technology: Improving transparency, accountability and security

Join OVIC in celebrating Privacy Awareness Week (PAW) in 2024, exploring the theme of Privacy and technology: improving transparency, accountability, and security.

Understanding how the technology within your organisation works is key to transparency, accountability, and security.

You can build trust in your organisation by being transparent about your information handling practices. Have clear, legible privacy policies and individual notices of collection for each point of collection.

If you’re looking to level up your privacy practices this PAW, OVIC has guidance on how your organisation can assess its state of privacy to review and improve its practices.

We’ll be covering a number of topics relating to privacy and technology at our events and in our resources, including:

  • What to consider before using AI;
  • What it means to be transparent and accountable in the way we use technology;
  • What it means to take ‘reasonable steps’ to protect privacy when using technology;
  • Improving privacy when outsourcing IT services; and
  • What to do if you experience a data breach.

OVIC encourages organisations and the community to get involved in PAW. Celebrate PAW 2024 by attending OVIC’s events, and downloading and sharing OVIC’s supporting materials.

We also encourage organisations to host their own PAW events, and we encourage organisations to get in touch and let us know how they plan to celebrate PAW 2024!

Further information and resources will be added to this page in the lead up to PAW.
