Information Access Series: Proactive and Informal Release
OVIC will be holding an Information Access Series (IAS) panel discussion on Wednesday 15 February.
Access to information legislation across Australia gives individuals the right to request access to information held by government agencies through formal application processes and proactive and informal release mechanisms.
Victoria’s Freedom of Information Act is considered a first-generation model of access to information, generally requiring individuals to ‘pull’ information out of government. This contrasts with NSW and QLD’s second-generation information access legislation that requires government agencies to ‘push’ their information out to the public.
In this session, Elizabeth Tydd, Information Commissioner, NSW Information and Privacy Commission, and Racheal Rangihaeata, Information Commissioner, Office of the Information Commissioner QLD, will discuss the operation of proactive and informal release of information in their respective jurisdictions. Sven Bluemmel will moderate the event.
